New Publications and Resources
In a new blog, CGD researchers Lee Crawfurd and Rory Todd explain how efforts to regulate lead chromate trade from rich to poor countries under the Rotterdam Convention have stalled due to bureaucratic inertia. They estimate that these exports could poison hundreds of thousands of children each year, and argue that governments must act now, unilaterally, rather than wait for the next convention.
Job Opportunities
Resolve to Save Lives is hiring a Senior Technical Advisor on Lead Poisoning Elimination to spearhead the development of a global technical package to prevent lead pollution in partnership with WHO, and to support country programs in LMICs. The role is remote and can be based in the US, UK, France, Nigeria, Ethiopia, or India.
Upcoming Events
Next week, CGD will host the First Annual Research Conference on Global Lead Exposure in Washington, D.C. and online (June 3–4). With over 40 presentations across two days, including panels on surveillance, supply chains, and interventions, the conference aims to inform global efforts to eliminate lead poisoning. See here to register, view the agenda, and read the FAQs.
On June 9 at 14:00 GMT, Pure Earth will host a virtual event on the link between lead exposure and preeclampsia in Ghana. Experts will present new evidence on the prevalence of lead poisoning in pregnant women and discuss strategies to address it.
